Mother-beet

 Mother-beet is my grandmother called, that she put her in the hot oven , she said, go for steam, and she stewed till evening.

And beets has been big, and she not cut theirs that juice to keep. And we had a garden, and she sewed with beet. She enjoyed beet , and we are since childhood enjoyed her, our childhood has been on the war years. We are  lost father, mother worked since morning till evening and grandmother helped us .She  has born in poor family from 12 children's she has been survived a one , other children's are dead from epidemic and hungry. In grandmother for all life left memory is pox on her face, she said, that in our village are feed and cured of  garden, forest, meadow, and for a first time are used beet, black radish and onion.

When war begun, my age is 9 y.old, sister is 7, and on a first warm autumn she widened garden, as sewed burdock, removed bad bushes And in poor families has been  beet, black radish, cabbage.

Carrot and turnip we are eaten till first frosts, beet is not allowed to add  frosts. She is strategic food, thus beet eaten all winter , she has been snack and cure. From walk, school are hungry, cold are eaten three spoon of thick green shi are eaten warm beet with bread pieces. She is sweet ,aroma, and other pieces she is felted , and with her we are drunk carrot, herbal tea, and we are dried , on summer drunk fresh beet kvas.

 One day neighbour boy damaged knee, leg is brown and blue, surgeries advised to amputate, mum cried at home, and asked our grandmother  to help him, and two times/day applied baked warmed onion with peel and ash part.On the morning we are warmed oven and on evening burned small  fire  ,that to bake oven. And grandmother put her to the knee from both sides, when redness and blue is decreased,she applied porridge of beet raw, greased her on the burdock leafs, and  trouble happened on September, and in November boy visited school. And when mum felt pressure raised, she has drunk  a week juice of raw beet with honey, she felt better.

And within many years we had lots of beet kinds, they are other, but best taste effects had, without a rings and  bristles inside,  than old kinds suffered, am tasted lots of kinds, but a most enjoyed Cylindra.
